Gearing Up...

I'm back at Einstein getting ready for classes to start next week. Be ready to hit the ground running on Monday -- periods may be short, but we've got two of them and we'll be starting our first lab!

Don't forget to finish that summer assignment if you haven't already. Also, I have not received emails from anyone in the class. Please email me at Scott_E_Soderholm@mcpsmd.org (or resend if you already had) so I can give you permission to edit this blog.

I'll see you all on Monday the 31st.

This summer's assignment

The PDF file for this summer's assignment is posted on the AEHS web site, or you can get it directly here.

It won't be long now! I'll see you on August 31, when we'll be doing a lab to kick off our year of AP Chemistry right. Please be sure to double check the assignment to make sure you've done it all, and email me or drop a comment here if you've got questions.

Oh yeah, the work part...

For those of you who already used your assignment sheet in a Summer chemistry experiment, here's the page and submission guidelines for your summer assignment (yay.)

Post here if you have trouble! Also, check the free online text for tutorials, etc.

Visit http://chemistry2.csudh.edu/homeworkn7/hwintrocsn7.html and answer the review questions I have assigned below. Continue answering questions until you have five (5) questions answered correctly. If you do not have access to a computer at home, please go to the nearest library and access it from there. These problems are due by August 16 (a week and a half BEFORE classes begin; also when fall sports start).

o Basic Concepts #0 (Significant Figures) NOTE: Use the online textbook to help with this.

o Basic Concepts #2 (Direct and Inverse Relationships)

o Basic Concepts #4 (Scientific Notation)

o Basic Concepts #5 (Smaller, Larger, or the Same?)

o Basic Concepts #6 (Percentage)

o Basic Concepts #9 (Mass, density and volume) NOTE: The program will only accept answers in 2 significant figures.

o Conversions #24 (Converting Densities)

o Conversions #25 (Converting Temperatures)

o Atoms and Elements #31 (Elements, moles and mass)

o Gases #44 (Ideal Gas Law)

o Solutions #53 (Molarity, mass and volume)

o To submit your scores: Type your name followed by a comma and "AP" or "IB" as appropriate (ex: “Bob Vila, AP”). Select "Soderholm, S" from the instructors list and hit “Submit Homework!”

o Again, please contact me or your peers if you have trouble with these assignments.

Bang!

And we're off to our summer! Go ahead and post a greeting, then ask whatever (chemistry) questions you might have. I'll be watching, and hopefully so will your classmates in AP and IB Chemistry.
